Veil Nebula in Cygnus

The Veil Nebula is a supernova remant. It is an expanding shell of gas blown out by a star that exploded 5000-8000 years ago. The shell is so thin that it is only visible where it is viewed edge-on, giving the fine filamentary appearance. Overall, the Veil Nebula is six times the diameter of the full Moon, but it is faint so is only apparent in photographs or large telescopes. The various patches of nebulosity are cataloged as separate nebula, including NGC 6960, NGC 6995, NGC 6974, and NGC 6979.

21 x 2min exposures with Canon F2.8L 70-200 zoom lens at F4/200mm, on an astro-modified Canon XSi.
Shot July 15, 2018 at the Golden State Star Party.
