NGC 7000 - North America Nebula

The North America Nebula is a cloud of glowing ionized hydrogen gas where new stars are being formed. The glow is powered by the ultraviolet light from the hot, young stars. The shape that gives it its name is formed by cloud itself plus masking from dark dust between the nebula and Earth. The North American Nebula is very large, about four times the size of the full Moon, but the surface brightness is low so it is difficult to see with the unaided eye. It's about 1600 light years from Earth.

30 x 3min exposures with Canon 2.8L 70-200 zoom at 200mm on an astro-modified Canon XSi. Processed with Nebulosity.
Shot July 13, 2018 at the Golden State Star Party.
