M42
This is a narrowband image of the Orion nebula, taken using filters that pass the light from only specific spectral lines of hydrogen, oxygen, and sulphur. The image is rendered using the "Hubble palette": sulphur is red, hydrogen is green, and oxygen is blue. The relative intensities of the colors have been adjusted to show the structure of the nebula, otherwise green would strongly dominate as M42 is composed mostly of hydrogen.
